My New Laptop  - ASUS FX504

After using a Lenovo G50–70 laptop for 5 years I decided to go for a new one. The Lenovo laptop had become very slow due to i3 processor. Moreover the Toshiba 1TB HDD which came with the laptop had developed a lot of bad sectors over time due to which the laptop was crashing often. There was some sale going on Amazon and Flipkart in India during Diwali and they were giving good discounts. In addition there were some exchange offers available for the old laptops. My main requirements were:
  • i5 or i7 processor
  • At least 8GB of RAM
  • 128 or 256 GB SSD with 1TB HDD
  • Full HD Screen
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • 4–5 hours of Battery Life
I was not too keen on having a separate graphics card. I do not play games on laptop and do not do graphics intensive work like photo or video editing. My main use of laptop is general internet browsing, watching videos and movies, blogging and programming. There were a lot of options available on Amazon and Flipkart and I was thoroughly confused. It is very difficult to make a decision when you have so many choices available. This is one of the drawbacks of online marketplaces. There are so many items available that it is very difficult to shortlist an item. You always feel that you are missing a better one at a lower price. These online websites also do not have proper description of each laptop being listed.
After spending hours and hours on Amazon and Flipkart I finally settled on ASUS Gaming Laptop TUF FX504GE.

Specifications
  • Core i5 8th Gen
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB M2 NVMe SSD and 1TB Segate Firecuda Hybrid HDD
  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050Ti with 4GB RAM
  • 15.6 inch Full HD LED Backlit IPS Display
  • Pre-installed Windows 10 Home Edition
  • Backlit Keyboard
Specifications looked good. It had all the above listed features which I needed and moreover there was a good discount on the laptop. I got it for around Rs.50,000 with exchange of old Lenovo G50–70 laptop. On Flipkart this model was listed with nVidia GTX 1050Ti graphics card whereas on Amazon the same laptop was listed with nVidia GTX 1050 card. I decided to go with Flipkart. Laptop was delivered in 3 days.
On opening the box the laptop looked really good. It has a metallic finish in dark grey colour with illuminated ASUS logo on top similar to Apple logo on MacBooks. It is bit heavy and bulky though. But this is what is expected from a gaming laptop, isn’t it.

P.S.: The Elan 1200 Touchpad sucks on this laptop. Such a disgusting piece of hardware on an otherwise good machine.
